Where did the week go?

This week went by really fast since we only had 4 days of school.  My classes all looked at Collage this week and investigated how artists had used different papers and ideas to create their artwork.  I wanted to show lots of examples of Collage to my students because this seems to be one area where they are unsure on what they can do.  We only have 2 weeks left in 3rd quarter so students have been really busy trying to meet their quarterly requirements.

My Expectations for Students

So I have thought long and hard about my expectations for each student to do every quarter.  This quarter I am expecting the student to try our 4 main medias that we have out everyday; these include Drawing, Painting, Collage, and Sculpture.  Next quarter will look very similar, but student may also have a subject matter requirement.  By having this list of requirements encourages students to try new things instead of always doing the same.  This will further their growth as an artist and meet the Grade Level Expectations (GLEs) that we have in Missouri.  After explaining what I expected to the students and why this is important for their artistic growth, I was surprised  how ready to go they were.  I got a lot of questions about how to use those media which lead me to the belief they hadn't tried those media, because they did not understand them.

Spring Break and 4th Quarter are almost here.  You can tell how busy we have really been just by looking at our creations.

The display case outside the Art Room is free again and we now have the ability to show off our 3D art in the hallways!
